Szklarska Poręba leży w województwie dolnośląskim, w powiecie jeleniogórskim, w dolinie rzeki Kamiennej i jej dopływów - Kamieńczyka i Szklarki. Od południa miasto położone jest na stokach Karkonoszy z dominującą nad miastem Szrenicą, której wysokość wynosi 1362 m n.p.m. Szklarska Poręba jest największą stacją klimatyczną Dolnego Śląska, znaną i cenioną od połowy XIX wieku.
