Kalisz znajduje na Wysoczyźnie Kaliskiej i jest największym miastem które leży na Nizinie Południowowielkopolskiej. Na terenie wzgórza Rodzinnych Ogródków Działkowych w Kaliszu znajduje się najwyżej położony punkt miasta - "Dziewiarz" (151 m.n.p.m.). Najniższym zaś punktem jest brzeg Kanału Bernardyńskiego.
Pierwsze wzmianki o Kaliszu odnotowano w 158 roku, kiedy to Klaudiusz Ptolemeusz wspomniał o miejscowości "Kalisia", w latach 850-860 stworzono gród na Zawodziu, a w roku 1106 gród opanowuje Bolesław III Krzywousty. Około roku 1257 Kaliszowi został przyznany przywilej lokacyjny przez Bolesława Pobożnego, a w 1282 roku potwierdzono nadanie miastu praw miejskich przez Przemysła II.
W Kaliszu znajduje się wiele ciekawych zabytków, są wśród nich obiekty takie jak np. dawny zespół klasztorny kanoników luterańskich przy ulicy Kanonickiej, franciszkański zespół klasztorny na ulicy Sukienniczej 7, pobernardyński zespół klasztorny (obecnie jezuicki) przy ulicy Stawiszyńskiej 2, kościół św. Gotarda, bazylika kolegiacka Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny, pojezuicki kościół św. Wojciecha i św. Stanisława Biskupa, cerkiew prawosławna Świętych Apostołów Piotra i Pawła, zespół cmentarzy, Pałac Komisji Województwa Kaliskiego, Ratusz z 1924 roku na Rynku Głównym, Pałac Trybunalski, Teatr im. Wojciecha Bogusławskiego, rogatka wrocławska, wieża ciśnień, fragmenty murów miejskich, budynki mieszkalne czy zespoły dworskie.
